The Reserve Golf Course is now a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary

Just 25 courses in S.C. carry this distinction

The Reserve’s stunning, 7,112-yard, Jack Nicklaus Signature Course along the shores of Lake Keowee has garnered numerous awards over the years for its challenging layout, nuanced greens, and sheer natural beauty.

But no award has been more meaningful—or more diligently sought after—than being officially acknowledged as a “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.” Chris Vincent, Golf Course Superintendent at The Reserve, led the effort to obtain a sanctuary designation and the Golf Maintenance Team is being formally recognized for Environmental Stewardship by Audubon International.

“The Reserve at Lake Keowee has shown a strong commitment to its environmental program. They are to be commended for their efforts to provide a sanctuary for wildlife on the golf course property.”  — Christine Kane, Executive Director at Audubon International.

The Reserve Golf Course Award

The award is particularly significant in that it recognizes that The Reserve maintains a high degree of quality across a number of critical areas. In particular, The Reserve demonstrated proficiency in the following categories:

  • Environmental Planning
  • Wildlife & Habitat Management
  • Chemical Use Reduction & Safety
  • Water Conservation
  • Water Quality Management
  • Outreach & Education

This award truly is a testament to the effort of our Golf Maintenance Team—it highlights their dedication to ensuring the course meets environmental standards and it demonstrates their ability to develop and implement an environmental management plan and then document the results.

“What a tremendous honor to have our golf product recognized in this manner,” says Tim Boeve, The Reserve’s Head Golf Professional. “We are humbled to join an elite group that shares a passion in environmental stewardship and sustainability. This certification mirrors our club’s deep-rooted values in enjoyment of the outdoor pursuits.”
